Start with where the gift will go
Look at the interior or ask for a room photo. Compare dimensions with the space on a table or cabinet. Compact shapes need little room; sculptural pieces look best with space around them.
Colour and fragrance are separate choices
Match the shade to textiles or existing décor. Choose scents by familiar notes: ask whether the owners like floral, fresh, fruity or woody compositions. Colour does not determine fragrance.
Choosing for friends or a couple
Ask about both people’s preferences. Sachets scent small spaces; candles need a stable, heat-resistant surface and supervision. If the household avoids fragrance, discuss an unscented option first.
